Andrew Pekler

 

Andrew Pekler was born in 1973 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. His family immigrated to the United States in 1980. He has resided in Germany since 1995. Andrew Pekler works with techniques of digital sampling and synthesis to re–contextualize found
sounds and archival musical materials. Since 2002 he has released solo and collaborative musical works for labels includung Faitiche, Shelter Press, Kranky, Staubgold and Senufo Editions.
Pekler has also produced a number of video and installation works – always in combination with sound.
Together with cultural anthropologist Kiwi Stefanie Menrath he developed PhantomIslands - A SonicAtlas, an interactive online map that charts the sounds and histories of a number of islands that were once found on nautical maps but have since disappeared.
In addition to his studio productions, Andrew Pekler has composed music for theater, dance, installations, and film and played numerous concerts in Europe, North and South America, Asia and Australia.
